As part of my BMW European Delivery experience to pick up my 328i, I went to the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. I have been there before and honestly think that it's the best manufacturer car museum I've ever been to. As one of the cooler things they do, you can see the exhibits placed in the garage. Below, my 328i parked next to the E-Class used in transformers.

Considering how old Mercedes-Benz and its parent company is, the museum starts at the beginning go the history of automobiles with the Patentwagen.
Beautifully manicured farms are adjacent to the Museum, as is their engine plant.
Most people don't know that the Mercedes name originated as a model of car that the daimler-benz company produced. This is the original "Mercedes" which became so popular that they renamed the company. The model was named after the daughter of an influential importer's daughter.
Trophies from the Nazi races in the 1930s.
Incredible.

When I was there last year, they had special exhibit for the many generations of SLs. They also had 3-4 of the rarest original 300SLs in that exhibit including a plastic body one, and several alloy body models.

The Merc museum is probably the best manufacturer museum I've been to. I was there in 2008 and hope very much to go back soon! The racing hall was definitely my favorite part; I loved seeing the 300 SLRs, Formula 1s, and racing trucks all in the same room...

My argument against Ford inventing the car, it always pisses people off for no reason.

yeah, ford was nowhere near this. If anything, Oldsmobile and cadillac were closer. Ford wasn't really on the scene until 1910s.

Exactly, IIRC the model t didn't go on sale until 1908. What he did do was mass produce the car which is the best thing he did, aside from making the car cheaper. People over here that don't care about the car always credit Ford with the invention of the car, and that's wrong. They always over look Daimler-Benz, Olds, and Cadillac.

I've saved almost all of these pictures to my computer! Wow, definitely a place I'd love to visit. Did your dad change his mind on the 5 Series after coming here? Lol

He is looking to pick up a 528i or 535i for my mom. So we'll see!

The Mercedes Museum is absolutely incredible.
I was last there in July 2011 when I attended the Mercedes 125th Anniversary party thrown for all their employees. (Even got to meet and drink a beer with Dieter himself.)
It really should be a destination point for any car lover...not to mention the architecture and design of the building itself.
